On Grief, 2023
On Grief began as a healing intervention I explored while processing and transforming some intergenerational grief and trauma. In this piece I focused my attention on the idea that grief is a letting in, not a letting go. I walked, sat, and gestured through this process not knowing what kind of outcome it would inspire. I was also inspired by an idea by poet Jarod K. Anderson that grief is love with nowhere to go.
In this performance study I also employ projection mapping as a tool to attempt to articulate the complex relational dynamics we engage in when we or someone we know, is grieving. Relying on poetry, projection, and metaphor, my intention with this performance work is to ask myself and audience to question the ways in which we project our values, desires, and pain onto other people. And how does this dance of interpersonal projection mirror larger ecological and humanitarian crisis?
